Spotlight Sessions

Brent Coley has been a classroom teacher for the past 14 years. He currently teaches 5th grade and is the Instructional Technology Leader at Tovashal Elementary School in Murrieta, California. Since 1999, he has provided his students and their parents a virtual window into the classroom by maintaining an award-winning classroom website (www.mrcoley.com). Not just popular with his school community, his site is a resource for educators all over the world, receiving visitors from all 50 states and over 90 countries. Having never completely abandoned his childhood dream of being a computer programmer, Brent has combined two of his passions—teaching and technology—as he leverages cutting edge technologies for educational purposes. In 2006, he began podcasting in the classroom. His students’ podcast, ColeyCast, is consistently among the featured K-12 podcasts in iTunes, and StudyCast, the curriculum review podcast he creates for his students, was awarded the 2008 Kidcast Award for “Best Study Guide or Learning Scaffold” Podcast. More recently, Brent has further tapped into the academic potential of iPods by creating iPod flash cards his students can download and use to study on the go.
